Your Input Matters: Testing Our New Resource Together on Scite AI Trial

Your Input Matters: Testing Our New Resource Together on Scite AI Trial Online

The Library and Learning Resources is exploring the usefulness and suitability of Scite AI for discovering and evaluating literature review.

Scite is an AI-driven tool designed to expedite the literature review process by offering supplementary papers that reference a given paper, along with highlighted passages indicating whether the original paper is supported or contradicted. As a result, users not only receive information about pertinent literature but also have the chance to promptly review the citing papers and the context of the citations, enabling them to assess its usefulness independently. It is considered a "valuable tool for efficiently and effectively analysing the types of citations made in various disciplines" (Lund and Shamsi, 2023: 4896).

A trial has been agreed to run till Sunday 13th October, via Scite AI in the A-Z Databases List. You are invited to trial with us and feedback. A few resources may help you get started:

We have organised a couple of training/drop-in sessions for you to explore it with us and share your feedback. You are welcome to our Scite AI tutorial on the following dates, online, between 2pm and 3pm.

October Thursday 3rd, Friday 4th, Monday 7th, Thursday 10th and Friday 11th, at 2-3pm, via this Teams link.

Reminder: Ethical Use of AI-Powered Tools

AI can be a powerful ally, but ethical use requires us to remain actively involved in the research process and uphold the integrity of our own work. While AI tools offer innovative capabilities and can assist with various tasks, it is crucial to remember that they are meant to complement, not replace, human expertise and judgment. As researchers and learners, we bear the responsibility for critical aspects of our work, including:
    • Deepening Your Understanding: Actively engage with topics you are unfamiliar with by exploring them thoroughly, rather than relying solely on AI-generated summaries.
    • Sourcing High-Quality Literature: Ensure that the literature you use comes from credible and trustworthy sources, and don't depend on AI tools to filter this for you.
    • Critical Thinking: Apply your analytical skills to evaluate the information you gather, and question its validity and relevance.
    • Summarising Research: Use your understanding to accurately summarise research papers, ensuring that key points are captured without losing the essence of the work.
    • Evaluating and Synthesising: Critically assess and synthesise information from various sources, combining insights in a meaningful and coherent way.
    • Writing Research: Authentically articulate your findings and ideas, ensuring that your writing reflects your own understanding and analysis.
